Sunrise Events celebrates its tenth year anniversary in grand fashion this 2018 by staging an IRONMAN 70.3 event in Mindanao for the first time, finally holding a much-awaited full distance IRONMAN in the Philippines in Subic and staging a second Asia Pacific IRONMAN 70.3 in Cebu.
Sunrise Events lived up to its billing as a sports tourism company as it expanded its presence to all three Philippine island groups of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao with the Alveo IRONMAN 70.3 Davao to be held on March 25, 2018.
“We at Sunrise Events are excited to be offering a brand-new race in another part of the country. Davao will be our next destination for an IRONMAN 70.3. We are encouraged by the enthusiasm Davao has expressed in hosting us there and I expect we will see this race steadily grow,” said Wilfred Steven Uytengsu, President and founder of Sunrise Events.
The Alveo IRONMAN 70.3 in Davao set a milestone with 1,800 athletes from 38 countries participating. It is the largest number of entries for an inaugural Sunrise Events race in the Philippines, Vietnam or Thailand
Davao City is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Philippines because of its natural beauty as well as its first class infrastructure. Participants, other athletes and visitors will have an easy journey to Davao with direct flights from Manila, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. They will also have a wide selection of world-class hotels to enjoy their stay in Davao which is on the east coast of Mindanao.
After years of requests and clamor by thousands of local triathletes a full distance IRONMAN will finally happen with the staging of the Century Tuna IRONMAN Philippines on June 3, 2018 at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone. Its theme is: “Maging IRONMAN sa sariling bayan.” (Become an IRONMAN in your home.)
“It has been 10 years since the first IRONMAN 70.3 race was held in Camarines Sur. From 583 participants and one race in 2009, the sport has grown by leaps and bounds, with multiple races all over the Philippines. We at Sunrise Events are happy to be at the forefront of this triathlon renaissance and are proud to organize the 2018 Century Tuna IRONMAN Philippines in order to showcase one more time the best the country can offer,” said Uytengsu.
The inaugural Century Tuna IRONMAN Philippines builds upon the successes of the Century Tuna IRONMAN 70.3 Subic Bay and provides local and foreign triathletes with a challenging, yet beautiful course as they continue their athletic and fitness journey.
Meanwhile, for the second time in three years, Cebu will be the home to the best triathletes in the Asia-Pacific region as it is hosts the Regent Aguila Energy Drink IRONMAN 70.3 Asia-Pacific Championship on August 5, 2018. The race starts at the Shangri-La Mactan and Resort in Lapu-Lapu City and will travel through the cities of Cebu, Mandaue and Talisay.
Uytengsu said he found it heartwarming to see the people accept the challenge of triathlon, come up to him and say their lives were changed. That they’re living a healthier lifestyle and they feel better about themselves. Sunrise is helping create a healthier nation.
The growing community of triathlon has also helped generate income for its host cities. Sunrise Events promotes sports tourism as it brings people to the Philippines for the first time, people who probably wouldn’t have come if not for IRONMAN.
Sunrise Events celebrates its tenth year and lives up to its identity as a sports tourism company with the staging of an IRONMAN event in all three Philippine island groups of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao for the first time; the holding of a full distance IRONMAN in Subic; and staging a second Asia Pacific IRONMAN 70.3 in Cebu.
