XTERRA possible only thru government, private sector cooperation

The premier off-road triathlon series, reels off in Legazpi City, Albay, Sunday, June 17, 2018 through close cooperation between the private sector and the Philippine government with the holding of XTERRA Off-Road Triathlon.

Sunrise Events, the premiere sports tourism company in the Philippines, has brought together private sector sponsors and branches of both local and national government in support of the internationally renowned race that will benefit Albay residents and tourism in the country.

“We want to give back to the municipalities that we visit. That’s a very important part for Sunrise Events. We support Legazpi. We will make sure that everyone in Legazpi knows that we are appreciative of everything that they’ve done to ensure the success of the race,” said Sunrise Events founder Wilfred Uytengsu.

He added that Sunrise Events has assembled an outstanding cast of pros and other off-road triathletes to participate in the race.

“Everybody is looking forward to a great, very challenging XTERRA race in Albay. We take pride that on the 10th year celebration of Sunrise, we had the opportunity to do two XTERRA triathlons, including the Asia Pacific Championship in Danao last month,” said Uytengsu.

Reigning world champion and back-to-back men’s titlist Bradley Weiss of South Africa returns to chase a three-peat of the 1.5 kilometer swim, 28 kilometer mountain bike and eight kilometer trail run that will be held under the shadow of majestic Mayon Volcano. Aussies Penny Slater and Leela Hancox will lead the women’s division.

Presented by the City of Legazpi and backed by the Department of Tourism and Tourism Promotions Board of the Philippines, XTERRA in Albay will be supported by both local and national government.

Private sector is represented by Sunrise Events, Prudential Guarantee, @GO Express, Sanicare, AlcoPlus, David’s Salon and media partners The Philippine STAR and HyperHD on Cignal.

The duathlon (two kilometer run, 14 kilometer bike, four kilometer run) and the XTERRA Lite (750 meter swim, 14 kilometer bike, four kilometer run) will also be held on the same day.
