Sunrise Events invite Subic and Cebu participants to join Swim Out

To ensure that the coming Century Tuna IRONMAN Philippines in Subic and the Aguila Energy Drink IRONMAN 70.3 Philippines in Cebu is a more enriching experience for participants, Sunrise Events organized the Sunrise Swim Out x Swim Junkie.

The Sunrise Swim Out will be a simulation of the said triathlons using the same swim course and implementing the same swim cut-off time. The Swim Out dates are set near the race to give the participants a feel of the water conditions for race day.

Subic Swim Outs will be held on April 15 (2 km to 4 km) and May 13 (2 km to 4 km). Cebu Swim Outs will be on July 8 (2 km to 4 km) and July 22 (2 km).

Interested parties may still join by clicking on the link to register.

Sunrise Events General Manager Princess Galura said the Swim Out was organized precisely for the benefit of participants to the Subic and Cebu triathlons.

“Practice makes perfect so we have two swim sessions for Subic and two for Cebu, making race day your third attempt. Learn tips from the best swim coach Betsy Medalla on how to conquer the swim and finish strong,” said Galura.

Registration fee is P2,500 for the 2k and P3,500 for the 4k inclusive of shirt, swim cap, brekkie and medal. It is open to all including those who will not race in Subic or Cebu.

Coach Medalla said participants who first join the Swim Out will have two huge advantages over athletes who don’t join.

“The first is in terms of strategy. You will come away with a sense of the distances between buoys, memorize sight markers and get a feel for the tides. The second is a mental advantage, which is significant. The course will be less of a mystery come race day,” said coach Medalla.

She asked interested parties to register early because slots are limited. Participants will get to see where they stand in terms of average times and the overall quality of the swims. They need these reconnaissance swims. The dates were selected based on tide predictions that are as close to those pegged for the IRONMAN Philippines races.

Coach Medalla called on everyone, even those not participating in the two triathlons, to join the Swim Out.

“If you are not registered for the IRONMAN or 70.3, this is an excellent opportunity to measure yourself against other athletes, or get an idea of what to expect should you sign up for one in the future, or simply to get a solid open water workout in near race conditions,” she said.
