The eyes of the world will again be focused on the island province of Cebu when Sunrise Events stages the biggest IRONMAN race in the Philippines this year with the holding of the Regent Aguila IRONMAN 70.3 Asia-Pacific Championships powered by Philam Vitality on August 11, 2019 at the Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort & Spa, Cebu.
With the new set of elected public officials having taken office the event marks the continuing partnership between the Cebu LGUs and Sunrise events as they showcase not just a world class race but also the best that Cebu has to offer including the wonderful tourist destinations according to Sunrise Events General Manager Princess Galura.
“This is a new beginning for all of us. For the newly elected officials from the province, to Lapu Lapu City, to Mandaue, to Cebu City and Talisay City. So now with a new group of officials – the new family of IRONMAN – we want this event, to not only be the crown jewel of Asia, we want to make a mark in the world. We are IRONMAN ready,” said Galura.
Lapu Lapu City Mayor Junar “Ahong” Chan said he welcomed the partnership with a heart full of enthusiasm as he and his city take part in holding the world renowned event.
“The Lapu-Lapu City government commits to give our visitors the best experience our city can offer. I am confident that this year’s IRONMAN will be a tremendous success as it was in the past,” said Chan.
Councilor Joel Garganera, speaking in behalf of Cebu City, said they welcomed the opportunity to again be part of an IRONMAN event.
“Last year we were not actively involved because of the sudden change of the route but fortunately this year we are going to use the Cebu South Road Properties area which is part of the area of jurisdiction of Cebu City. We all know the staging of an IRONMAN event involves a lot of work and covers a very big area. Cebu City is ready to be a co-host of this very prestigious event,” said Garganera.
Meanwhile, Talisay City Mayor Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas in a statement said his city completely supports the event.
Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort & Spa General Manager Rene G. Egle for his part said they welcomed the opportunity to host another IRONMAN event.
“This is actually the eighth consecutive year that Shangri-La Mactan is race central to the IRONMAN and I would like to say that it has gone from good, to great, to even better. We are once again very excited to be the host for this amazing race,” said Egle.
Activities start on August 8 with the opening of the Expo and other events at The Marquee.
